Point Dogbark.com >> How To >> FTP >> Fetch 5 for MAC

Fetch is good FTP program for MAC users. The following will show the log-on process, as well as how to upload files to your FTP space on our servers.

Connecting to Fetch

  1. Go ahead and open Fetch. It will immediately prompt you for a "new connection." You will need the enter the information that follows:
    • Hostname- this is going to be the address to your FTP space. It will always be ftp.your_domain_name.com.
    • Username- your username is set-up when you create your order with dogbark.
    • Connect Using- this should be "FTP" by default, if it is something else go ahead and change it so it says "FTP."
    • Password- usually a server generated password. You can find it where you found your username.
**If you do not know your username or password, you can either log into the dogbark account manager, check the email that we sent you when you signed up for your dogbark account, or give us a buzz at 877-864-7929 and we'll help you out.
  2. Your screen should look something like this:

    Fetch1
  3. Go ahead and hit "Connect."
  4. This will bring you into Fetch's main screen. The most important folder there for your site files is called "HTDOCS."

    Fetch2
  5. Double click on the "HTDOCS" folder. This is where the files for your website must be placed in order for them to be visible by the browsers.
Note: The main page of your website should be called "index.html" or "index.php" Whatever extension you are using, you must have the index page. This is what every browser will look for when it looks in your HTDOCS folder for files. If you do not have an index page, your browser will take you to a parent directory of the HTDOCS folder. So if you don't have the main page called index.html, go ahead and create that before continuing.
  6. Now that you have your files in order, making sure you are in the "HTDOCS" folder in Fetch, go ahead and hit the "PUT" button on the top toolbar as shown:

    Fetch3
  7. This will open another window where you can browse for your files that you would like to "put" out on the server. Just select that files/folders that you want, and click the "put" button.

    Fetch4
  8. For most users, that will just about do it, if you are using our Advanced or Pro plans that have access to the PRO FTP, please read the following:

If you are using our Advanced or Pro plan, you will have access to proFTP. You will need to call us to get these folders set up for you. Each folder will have a username and a password for the person accessing them. But if you look on the main level of your site, you'll see an FTP folder. In this folder you'll find the usernames you have given us will become folders inside of the FTP folder. Simply drop the files you want to give your FTP user in their specific folders, and give them the correct username and password and you are good to go.
