FireFTP is a great FTP plugin for Mozilla Firefox. If you already have Firefox, you can go here to grab and install the FireFTP plugin into your browser. And guess what, it's FREE.

The following tutorial will walk through how to set up your site, and how to upload your files to your webspace.

Getting Connected and Uploading

  1. First, go ahead and open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Now, click on "Tools" and then "FireFTP" as shown below...

    FireFTP1
  3. This will open the main tab for the Fire FTP program.
  4. The first thing we'll want to do is create an account. Go ahead and click where it says "Create new account" as shown below.

    FireFTP2
  5. Make sure that "Main" is highlighted on the top toolbar, and enter the following information:
    • Account Name- This is simply the name that this account will be called by FireFTP. You are the only person that will see this, I usually name them the domain name without the .com. (ex. dogbark).
    • Host- this is going to be the address to your FTP space. It will always be ftp.your_domain_name.com
    • Login- this is your FTP username.
    • Password- usually a server generated password for security reasons.
You can find this information either in the dogbark account manager, or in the email that we sent you when you signed up for your dogbark account.
  6. If you click on the "Connection" tab you can alter the main directories or change the mode in which you connect to FTP. If you are a beginner, I'd leave that alone for now until you get more comfortable with FTP.
  7. Go ahead and Click "OK."

  8. Now that your set up it's time to log in. Make sure your new account is highlighted in the accounts bar and click "Connect" as shown below...

    FireFTP4
  9. Once you are connected, you'll notice the screen is split into two halves.
    • The left hand side is "Your Stuff."This is everything that is available on the hard drive of your computer.
    • The right hand side is going to be "Their Stuff." This is everything that you exists on the server for your website.

Essentially what you are going to do is drag the files/folders from your computer to the location you want them to go to.
    • Go ahead and click on the "HTDOCS" folder on the right hand side. Should look like this below. **Note: in order for files to be visible by web browsers they must reside in the htdocs folder of your website.**

      FireFTP5
  10. Go ahead and drag the rest of your site files from your computer on the left to the web server on the right.
  11. That's all the is to it, if you have the PRO FTP available to you please continue reading for more information about how to make that work, otherwise, you deserve a rest.

If you are using our Advanced or Pro plan, you will have access to proFTP. You will need to call us to get these folders set up for you. Each folder will have a username and a password for the person accessing them. But if you look on the main level of your site, you'll see an FTP folder. In this folder you'll find the usernames you have given us will become folders inside of the FTP folder. Simply drop the files you want to give your FTP user in their specific folders, and give them the correct username and password and you are good to go.

Now that wasn't so hard was it? Give yourself a nice paw on the back. If you have any other questions, please contact dogbark's friendly support staff at 877-864-7929 or email us at info@dogbark.com
