The following will describe "how-to" set up your site in NVU and how to use their built in FTP program to upload or publish your site.
• Setting Up a New Site.
- First, go ahead and open NVU on your MAC.
- Next, click the "Edit Sites" button on the left hand side.
- This will open another window. Please enter that information that follows:
- Site Name- this is just so you can identify your site. Usually I name it the same as my domain name. (ex. dogbark.com).
- HTTP Address- this is going to be your web URL. http://www.your_domain.com
- Publishing Address- the address of the server that you will publish to.
You will want to use ftp.your_domain.com/htdocs/
Make sure you add the htdocs at the end there, if you do not publish to this directory in your site, the files will NOT be able to be seen by any browser - Username- your FTP username with dogbark.com
- Password- your FTP password with dogbark.com
If you do not know these, you can find this information in the dogbark account manager.
- Go ahead and click "Okay."
- At this point you'll get sent back to the main part of the program, but you'll see your site there on the left hand side. That's all folks.
• Publishing Your Files to the Server.
- Now that your site is up, you'll want to click the little arrow next to
your site name on the left, so it points
- Go ahead and make a file called "test.html" by typing test in the right
window and saving it to your computer.
- Now click the "Publish" button on the top toolbar.
- If another window comes up it is because you need to title your page. Go ahead and give a title, and hit "Okay"
- Finally, go back to the managing sites on the left, and hit the "refresh"
button and you should see your file there.
It's respective URL would be http://www.your_domain.com/test.html
